MHMW02 - Modern History of Mathematics: Looking Ahead This talk will explore how a selection of 19th- and 20th-century mathematicians, stemming from distinct scientific cultures, approached the task of defining, constructing, and representing geometrical curves. It will then relate these approaches to local epistemic ideals and research programmes, and interrogate the historiographical effects one might expect from focusing on practices of objectivity, especially as it pertains to the identification of continuities and discontinuities across mathematical theories and disciplines.
