SSDW05 - Modelling and Applications of Anomalous Diffusions The study of diffusion processes with preferential returns to places visited in the past has received some attention in recent years, on the one hand due to their connection with resetting processes and on the other hand for their ability to model memory in animal movement. These processes are generically characterised by very slow, logarithmic diffusion and power-law relaxation toward steady states when these exist. We review some exact results on preferential reinforcement models applied to a variety of processes, such as random walks, Lévy flights or active motion, and in a variety of environments, from regular lattices to complex networks, or in the presence of external potentials.
