If you have a question about this talk, please contact Dr Michael Haigh. We present a new dataset of the monthly steric height anomaly (SHA) from 2002-2018 for the Southern Ocean south of 50°S, for both the ice-free and icecovered ocean. The SHA has been calculated using satellite altimetry and gravimetry and validated against Argo float and tagged elephant seal (MEOP) data. We present an analysis of the seasonal cycle and long-term trends in the SHA , finding close links to the Southern Oscillation and the Southern Annular Mode, particularly in West Antarctica.
