Dinosaurs ruled the world for over 150 million years, went extinct, and then mammals replaced them. This story is constantly repeated in textbooks, documentaries, and museum exhibits. But the real story is so much richer. In this talk, University of Edinburgh palaeontologist Steve Brusatte (palaeontology advisor for Jurassic World: Dominion) will tell the tale of dinosaur history, from their humble origins on the supercontinent Pangea, through the evolution of earth-shaking giants and winged fliers that turned into birds, to the sudden death of all of the non-birds when a giant asteroid hit the Earth 66 million years ago. He will then turn describe how some small mammals weathered the chaos, took advantage of open niches, and established our mammal-dominated world. The talk will follow the storylines of Brusatte’s pop science books The Rise and Fall of the Dinosaurs and the Rise and Reign of the Mammals, copies of which will be available for sale and signing.
