MWSW02 - Theory of wave scattering in complex and random media Nondestructive characterization of microstructure in polycrystalline media is highly desirable. Mathematical models of wave propagation and material statistics can be used to invert microstructural data from ultrasonic data. This presentation provides an overview of the existing models to describe scattering in polycrystals. In particular, the use of spatial correlation functions (SCFs), which describe how microscopic variables at random sites are correlated, is discussed. Typical SCF forms in relation to ultrasonic scattering measurements are described along with recent advances in semi-analytical approaches.
