If you have a question about this talk, please contact nobody. HY2W05 - Physical applications We consider a large data set of rogue waves measured at a site close to the East Frisian Island Norderney. The data set has been analyzed using the nonlinear Fourier (or scattering) transform for the Korteweg—de Vries (KdV) equation with vanishing boundary conditions. The discrete part of the nonlinear spectrum corresponds to solitons under ideal propagation w.r.t. to the KdV equation. Its contribution to the rogue waves is investigated. This talk is based on the recent preprint Teutsch, I., Brühl, M., Weisse, R., and Wahls, S.: Contribution of solitons to enhanced rogue wave occurrence in shallow water: a case study in the southern North Sea, Nat. Hazards Earth Syst. Sci. Discuss. [preprint], https://doi.org/10.5194/nhess-2022-28, in review, 2022. This talk is part of the Isaac Newton Institute Seminar Series series.
