HY2W04 - Statistical mechanics, integrability and dispersive hydrodynamics Single interlacing of particles along an array of parallel lines occurs in random tiling models (with lozenges or dominos) near the point of tangency of the arctic curve (between the liquid and the solid regions) with the boundary of the domain. In contrast, double interlacing appears when introducing non-convexities in very large size domains of lozenge or domino tilings; this situation may lead to several liquid regions far apart from each other or merely touching. The tiling fluctuations near the point of touching are given by a new universal determinantal process, governed by the so-called “discrete tacnode kernel”.
