GRA2 - Groups, representations and applications: new perspectives

In 2003, Jan, together with Rodgers, published a beautiful result that gave a sufficient condition for a set of conjugacy classes of $SL_n(q)$ to have product equal to $SL_n(q)$. This result inspired Pyber, Szabo and myself to try and prove a variant of the Rodgers-Saxl result that applied to all groups of Lie type. I will describe this work.
