GR2W01 - Counting conjectures and beyond Originally motivated by the McKay Conjecture, over the last few years I have been interested in studying the restriction of irreducible characters of finite groups to Sylow subgroups. In this talk I will mention how this topic played a central role in the proof of a conjecture formulated by Malle and Navarro in 2012. This result is contained in a very recent joint work with Stacey Law, Jason Long and Carolina Vallejo. In the second part of the talk I will focus on symmetric groups. In particular, I will describe some new results concerning restriction of characters to Sylow subgroups in this context. This part of the talk is based on joint work with Giada Volpato.
