MIMW01 - From foundations to state-of-the-art in magma/mantle dynamics Planetary long-term cooling, as well as surface phenomena such as plate tectonics, volcanoes and earthquakes, are mainly controlled by the existence and patterns of convective motions in the solid-state mantle. The morphology and characteristics of convective patterns strongly depends on the mantle physical properties and the existence of density heterogeneities.
