The Auroux-Kontsevich-Seidel criterion is a constraint on the self-Floer cohomology of monotone Lagrangians, which is important both conceptually and in calculations. It follows from the construction of a ring homomorphism, the closed-open string map, from the quantum cohomology of the ambient symplectic manifold into Floer cohomology.
