If you have a question about this talk, please contact Joe Waldron. We take a look at the interplay between contact dynamics and symplectic topology through the lens of intersection theory for punctured holomorphic curves. In the natural context of 4 dimensional symplectic cobordisms with contact type boundaries, the existence of nicely embedded curves translates into explicit dynamical properties of the latter. We revisit some of the classical results of Hofer et. al. and describe how the modern machinery available today allows us to prove more. This talk is part of the Junior Geometry Seminar series.
