In this talk I will show how superstring amplitudes in ten dimensions assume simple forms when written as objects in the cohomology of pure spinor superspace. This realization motivates a systematic study of the cohomology using the vertex operator algebra in the pure spinor formalism as a tool to antecipate results for higher-point amplitudes at a given loop order. I will also show how these studies led to a multiparticle generalization of the standard ten-dimensional SYM equations of motion.
