We are currently at an exceptional moment in science where sophisticated theoretical and experimental techniques in contemporary quantum theory are allowing the detailed interrogation of quantum dynamics of the molecular components of living organisms, in conditions that are physiologically relevant. We are therefore on a promising scientific path to unveil the possible roles of non-trivial quantum phenomena in biomolecular functions. In this talk, I will describe current research and advances on the understanding of non-trivial quantum effects in light-initiated reactions in biology as well as some of the main challenges that are yet to be addressed.
