Mathematics and Applications of Branes in String and M-theory

I will show how loop space can be used in the description of M5-branes. I will focus mainly on the description of self-dual strings as well as a self-dual string analogue of magnetic bags. I will develop a Nahm transform for both cases and construct a number of explicit solutions. I will also show how loop space gives a natural interpretation to a recently proposed set of N=(2,0) supersymmetric equations which might describe M5-branes.
