Today’s Diesel engines are a complex combination of interacting
systems which are designed to satisfy the driver’s requests as
efficiently and cleanly as possible, whilst using cost effective and
reliable components. The automotive industry is understandably
conservative and control systems have been evolving over the last
decade through increasing numbers of correction factors and specific
calibrations. This seminar introduces the Diesel engine systems and
some of the control challenges, concluding with a discussion on
whether it is time for a more systematic approach to engine control?
