SSDW03 - Geometry, occupation fields, and scaling limits This talk will present the stochastic sandpile model, which is a natural candidate for an elementary model of self-organized criticality. It emerged as a variant of the abelian sandpile model, with a behaviour which is expected to be more universal. I will present a recent joint work with Concetta Campailla and Lorenzo Taggi, showing that in all dimensions this model exhibits a non-trivial phase transition, with a critical density strictly between 0 and 1.This work builds upon techniques developed to study a closely related model known as activated random walks.
