ADIW04 - Anti-Diffusion in Multiphase and Active Flows This talk will survey properties of localized states withinthe framework of passive and active phase field crystal (PFC)models. The role of these structures in mediating crystallizationin passive systems with a conserved order parameter will be described.Commonly employed extensions of the PFC model to include activity areshown to be nongeneric owing to unexpected gradient structure. Theconsequences of this structure will be illustrated and the modificationsrequired to restore generic behavior will be discussed.
