MWSW03 - Computational methods for multiple scattering A multimodal formulation of the wave propagation in heterogeneous media will be presented, that allows us to solve complex scattering problems by arbitrary shaped penetrable scatterers. Using a modal expansion of the wavefield (in a domain bounded by various possible conditions), the problem reduces to a set of first order coupled equations for the modal components of the field. The numerical solution of these equations will be presented and discussed, as well as the possibilities it offers to solve complex scattering problems. The case of disordered media, made of a large number of scatterers, will notably be analyzed and illustrated. This talk is part of the Isaac Newton Institute Seminar Series series.
