If you have a question about this talk, please contact Macarena Arenas. This is a survey talk on configuration spaces. After defining them and situating them in the mathematical landscape, I will introduce a common method to study their homology, the so-called scanning. Focusing on ordered configurations of discs, I will discuss how their homology is related to planetary systems and, time permitting, the little discs and the Lie operad.
