If you have a question about this talk, please contact nobody. DY2W01 - Dynamos in planets and stars - similarities and differences In this talk I will review what is known about the behaviour of global solar and stellar magnetic fields. I will then discuss methods from dynamical systems and data-driven fluid dynamics for deriving reduced models for the generation of this systematic behaviour, incluiding a discussion of the recovery of systems of equations from data and prediction of future transitions. I will argue that it is only by understanding the underlying physical and mathematical nature of the dynamo equations and paying careful attention to observational signatures that a full understanding of the interactions will emerge.
