FKTW03 - Frontiers in kinetic equations for plasmas and collective behaviour In this talk, we consider a complexity reduction technique for the Vlasov equation based on a dynamical low-rank approximation. This approach allows us to resolve small-scale oscillations while still drastically reducing the number of degrees of freedom required to obtain an accurate simulation. We highlight some recent algorithmic improvements to effectively use such methods (such as methods that conserve mass and energy) as well as emphasize efficient parallelization in order to run these schemes on modern computer hardware. In particular, we focus here on applying such techniques to kinetic Alfvén waves. This talk is part of the Isaac Newton Institute Seminar Series series. This talk is included in these lists:
