In the first part of this talk I will overview my recent proposal for extracting the entire algebraic structure of a continuum QFT from a large but finite lattice theory. This proposal extends familiar RG ideas and shows how to systematically smoothe out lattice fields to get ersatz continuum ones. The second part of the talk will use this lattice-continuum correspondence to precisely track the emergence of Abelian Chern-Simons physics from lattice theories. This can be done completely explicitly in (0+1)D; many new lessons will also become available in the more familiar but less tractable (2+1)D case.

This talk is part of the Quantum Fields and Strings Seminars series.
