The programme of classifying rational conformal field theories in 2d via a holomorphic modular bootstrap has been ongoing for over three decades. Its primary tool is the Modular Linear Differential Equation. The approach has led to many novel and surprising results about 2d CFT , particularly those with a small number of holomorphic characters. It organises theories by the number of primaries under some unspecified chiral algebra, and unifies theories across different minimal series. Data about the classified CFT ’s, including spectrum, fusion rules, correlation functions and partition functions, can be obtained. In recent years a complete classification of potential two-character CFT has been provided and a partial classification for the three-character case is under way.
