DNMW03 - Optimal design of soft matter - including a celebration of Women in Materials Science (WMS) I will show that inertia can stabilise flocks in bulk fluid provided their order is vectorial, not nematic, and their active stresses are extensile. Among our results is a flocking transition driven by inertia, and two kinds of turbulent states, one of which is ordered “phase turbulence”.
