The precise measurements of heavy quark production at the LHC offer a unique opportunity to test the corresponding predictions in perturbative QCD . I investigate how the precise measurements of D and B hadrons at large
rapidities (primarily at LHCb) can provide unique information on the internal structure of the proton. After showing how this data leads to an improved description of parton distribution functions at low-x, I discuss
how this information has applications for neutrino astronomy.
