Abstract: I’m going to talk about the massive gulf between the theory and practice of the Internet of things…its not an internet. it doesn’t just connect things, it connects sensors and actuators, which affect and effect people. It doesn’t do security (except when it does lockin through DRM ). It is full of terrible vulnerabilities and is going to cause loss of life and limb before it actually comes close to fulfilling any real promises. Bio: Jonathan Andrew “Jon” Crowcroft, FRS , FREng is the Marconi Professor of Communications Systems in the Computer Laboratory of the University of Cambridge. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jon_Crowcroft http://www.cl.cam.ac.uk/~jac22/ IoT: http://hubofallthings.com/ This talk is part of the Data Insights Cambridge series.
