Modern event generators provide a precise simulation of collision events at the LHC , allowing to use them for a more reliable background estimation or interpretation of data. In this talk I will briefly summarise the distinctive features of the Sherpa Monte Carlo and then concentrate on practical considerations—in particular also cases where naive expectations about parton shower programs sometimes clash with the reality of NLO -matched and multi-jet-merged simulations.
