Passcode: JCk2AZ The development of microscopic imaging has been fundamental to scientific advancement since the 16th century. Indeed, as Freeman Dyson declared, “new directions in science are launched by new tools much more often than by new concepts”. This talk will discuss the role of microscopy in science and describe how the development of the scanning helium microscope (SHeM) is revolutionising the imaging of materials and the potential impact of damage-free microscopy.
