The ATLAS level-1 calorimeter trigger (L1Calo) is a hardware system that identifies events containing calorimeter-based physics objects (e.g. jets, missing ET , e/γ, τ s). In preparation for Run 3 with increased pileup, L1Calo implemented a significant programme of upgrades. The combined effort of L1Calo UK over many years resulted in a 20% rate reduction of e/γ rate with similar thresholds.
