Semileptonic B decays are ideal for precise measurements of the Standard Model CKM parameters. They also allow for high precision tests of lepton universality and so probe new physics. In this talk an overview of the programme of such measurements being carried out LHCb is presented with some comment on the experimental methods and challenges.
