Searches for beyond the standard model (BSM) physics are an integral part of the ATLAS physics program. In this seminar, I will briefly motivate the need for BSM physics and elaborate upon two possible extensions to the SM: Supersymmetry and simplified dark-matter models. An overview of the recent ATLAS search using the bb+MET final state will be presented, and the new methods used to enhance the sensitivity, when compared with the previous 36fb^-1 result, will be discussed.
