This two-lecture course is a compact introduction to the mathematical discipline of Optimisation, which involves finding the best choice in some given scenario. It is an important topic for many tasks in Chemical Engingeering and Biotechnology, for example in designing plant operations as well as in predicting protein folding. This short course will explain the types of variables in optimization problems, different optimization problem formulations satisfying different requirements, and finally the development of modern solution methods.
This talk is part of the Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology occasional seminars series.
