Is “brain inspiration” the driver of the current revolution in Machine Learning or just a bogus marketing term? In this lecture originally created for the CogNeuro MSc at Kings College London, I go through the current technologies in Adaptive Machine Learning and discuss their relationship with the current knowledge about the brain. Jiri (George) Cevora obtained his PhD in Theoretical Neuroscience/Cognitive Science, using machine learning to model learning in biological brains. At Illumr, George is undertaking research into the use of Topological Methods for Data Analysis and development of supporting algorithms that mostly involve approximate Bayesian Inference.
