Evening lecture by Prof. Peter Lillford, CBE , University of York

In 1995-6, The UK’s Office of Science and Technology published a series of recommendations about the future of British Science and Technology. The idea was that a focus for activities that would keep the country competitive, not only in its science but also in its wealth creation would be identified. In all, 15 Business Sectors provided their recommendations and identified some futuristic scenarios for life in 2015. This meeting will recall the highlights of what some of them said might, or should happen. At that time, there were few GM plants, and nobody was sure whether climate change was real. This event will offer the opportunity to examine the primary industry of agriculture and the environment, the industrial sectors of energy, chemicals, and food and drink, and the service sectors of retailing and the financial services.
