Flow cytometry is a technology used extensively by immunologists to analyse the physical parameters of individual blood cells, but has wider applications in other fields such as cell biology, microbiology and diagnostics. The first part of this talk will introduce flow cytometry as a technology applicable to researchers from a range of biological fields, with a particular focus on the search for biomarkers of neurological and psychiatric disorders. The second part of the masterclass will be focused on the application of flow cytometry for chemical biology. Specificity towards its target antigen of an antibody-fluorescent conjugate can be demonstrated by flow cytometry analysis.
