This talk is a basic introduction to the wonderful world of Higgs bundles on a Riemann Surface, and their moduli space. The talk will survey the basics of the theory focusing on the rich geometry of the moduli space of Higgs bundles. In the end we will indicate why Higgs bundles today 28 years after the Hitchin’s landmark paper is still a hot topic.

This talk is part of the Junior Geometry Seminar series.
