This lecture will describe the current state of play in the pharmaceutical sector, the growth of biologics, the headwinds facing these sectors, the impact of the emerging markets and the convergence of the pharmaceutical, biotechnology and diagnostics industries. It will also cover the fight back, the paradigm shift currently being executed and emergence of new bioindustrial players in this sector. Examples will be given of the speakers own experience with entrepreneurial start-ups which exploit pioneering science to capture new markets in these sectors.
