Masonry arches and tunnels present complex engineering problems,
particularly of soil structure interaction. The talk will begin with a
defence of plasticity in Masonry structures (surely not necessary in
Cambridge!) and go on to look at some structures that have presented
difficult problems and often serious arguments over the validity and indeed
the need for complex analysis.
