If you have a question about this talk, please contact Panagiotis Fytas. Over the past two decades, political scientists have increasingly adopted and developed natural language processing methods to use text as an additional source of data in their analyses. Over the last decade, the use of computational methods to analyse political texts has expanded significantly, leading to a substantial growth of the text-as-data community within political science. In this talk, I will present some of our recent contributions at the intersection of document understanding and automated analysis of political texts. I will also argue for the need for increasingly deeper levels of (linguistic) analysis to understand complex phenomena such as ideologies and political attitudes from texts.
