My lecture tells stories from a career covering a wide range of synthetic organic chemistry, identifying in particular those events that led me to enter the field of organosilicon chemistry applied to organic synthesis, to develop the silyl-to-hydroxy conversion, and to find powerful methods of open-chain stereocontrol.
