If you have a question about this talk, please contact Marco Caballero. Abstract: Low Power Wide Area Network (LPWAN) technologies, such as LoRa/LoRaWAN, Sigfox or NB-IoT are experiencing high momentum. Internet connectivity support appears as a promising next step in the evolution of LPWAN . However, the (sometimes extraordinarily) limited communication capabilities of LPWAN technologies challenge IPv6 support, even when considering previous efforts to provide IPv6 for IoT environments, such as 6LoWPAN or 6Lo. The talk will motivate and present the functionality that is being standardized by the IETF LPWAN Working Group in order to enable IPv6 over LPWAN technologies, along with a number of related open research and standardization issues. Bio: Carles Gomez is an Associate Professor at Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC), Spain. He is coauthor of numerous technical contributions published in journals, conferences, books and IETF standards. His research interests focus primarily on the IoT. He has also worked on mesh and ad-hoc networks. He has been an active contributor to IP-based IoT standardization in the IETF 6 LoWPAN, 6Lo, CoRE, LWIG and LPWAN working groups, and is also a chair of the IETF 6 Lo working group. He is academic director and founder (jointly with Prof. Josep Paradells) of the Master’s degree on IoT at UPC School. He is an editorial board member of JAISE , Sensors, and WCMC journals. He is currently a visiting scholar at the Computer Laboratory of the University of Cambridge, under the supervision of Prof. Jon Crowcroft.
