Magdalene College is hosting a one-day workshop exploring mobility and migration, as well as concepts such as transnationalism, globalism, and cosmopolitanism that seek to break out of conventional political and territorial structures of colonialism and nationalism. Younger scholars will present papers with Dr. Tim Harper, Dr. Dilip Menon, Professor Chris Bayly, and Dr. Shruti Kapila as discussants. Lunch will be provided for speakers and discussants.

Session 3 (14:15-16:00): Deborah Sutton (Lancaster) “Indian Sovereignty and the Indian Subject: Partition and politics beyond the nation”; Emma Reisz (Queen’s University Belfast) ; Sebastian Prange (SOAS) “Piracy as challenge to state and empire”
