Refreshments available before the talk starts at 18:00 Simulating physical phenomena such a turbulent flows relies on translating equations into matrices. The properties of matrices has a huge affect on how well the simulation performs. One particularly important (and seemingly innocent) property is that of the condition number of a matrix. I will talk motivate through examples the importance of the condition number and discuss how to make the it more manageable. This talk is part of the Emmy Noether Society series.
