Advanced light microscope techniques like SIM allow us to see structures in biological cells with ~100 nm resolution, but there are many practical constraints to using these expensive, delicate and bulky instruments. The SIMple microscope aims to address these limitations by re-engineering the optics to enable imaging in “unconventional” environments, beyond the traditional well-funded optics laboratory or imaging facility.
