Nitrile latex gloves are ubiquitous in labs and health care settings. They are made via a dipping process which is energy intensive. The strength of such gloves is shown to come from crosslinking of multi valent cations used in their production process and Zinc is typically compounded into the raw material. Here we show the role of different cations and explore the resulting film strength. A system which uses calcium rather than zinc is proposed
