Session 1, Cambridge Networks and Communication Meeting

We consider fixed-rate transmission over a delay-constrained wireless channel with an arbitrary input distribution. We derive the optimal power allocation algorithms for peak, average and peak-to-average power constraints. We study the asymptotic behaviour of the error probability for large signal-to-noise ratio and we illustrate the large gains possible with power allocation.
