Although many of the components for an optical quantum computer exist in some form, to link them together often causes massive losses. Being able to integrate the components together on the same chip could eliminate much of this loss, but there are several difficulties. I shall discuss my research toward integrating a single photon source and waveguide circuits on III -V semiconductors, and the merits and demerits of several approaches to this problem.
