When viscous fluid is injected in the gap between an elastic sheet and a rigid base plate, the sheet peels away from the base at a speed which depends on various factors. In this talk, I will describe how to model this problem mathematically using lubrication theory, and how to solve it using a matched asymptotic expansion. The method generalizes to yield over 50 different asymptotic solutions for spreading of viscous fluid under an elastic sheet.
