The response of submerged structures subject to loading by underwater blast waves is strongly affected by fluid-structure interaction phenomena, which are governed by complex physics. In this seminar, an experimental technique is presented to examine the underwater blast response of various structural systems via direct observation of the structural response as well as cavitation processes in the water. In addition, analytical models will be presented which provide a solid foundation for understanding the underlying physics.
